Huntington Court Earns Deficiency Free Survey

October 1, 2020Hamilton, Ohio - Way to go HUNTINGTON COURT!!! For those of you that work in long-term care you already know how hard it is to have a deficiency-free survey of any kind. For those of you that aren't familiar, we can give you a brief overview. State of Ohio Department of Health shows up at your nursing facility completely unannounced any day or time to go through your facility with a fine-tooth comb. They make sure you are doing everything and I mean EVERYTHING 100% by the book! From the basics of health care needs and safety of the residents to their emotional well being. As well as their environment cleanliness, activities that meet their interest, the list goes on and on. During a pandemic, they have ramped up surveys and now do focus surveys on infection control. In short, the nursing facilities are being held to an even higher standard with multiple surveys under more extreme circumstances. They make sure staff and residents are wearing proper PPE. They make sure they are putting it on and off correctly, not forgetting any piece of it and most times you don't even now they're watching you. Working in health care during a pandemic is almost indescribable at times. All the gear that is uncomfortable and hot, the added monitoring, testing, and assessments, to make sure residents and staff are kept healthy and safe in addition to all that was expected pre-pandemic. Another big task that has been taken on by the frontline staff is they are now the main source of visitors for the residents. This carries a lot of weight for our employees; they love their resident's so much and they are now doubling as the caregiver and their visitors. We've never seen so many tears shed by employees in health care as we have these last six months.
Tears of happiness when the resident's get window visit or outdoor visit, tears of sadness because that visit can't be a hug, tears of relief with every negative COVID test result. We've also seen lots of fun creative ideas to make our residents happy! You want a dance in front of your door? You got it! Easter egg hunt in your room, sure thing! Doorway bingo, absolutely! Whatever we can do to keep our resident's spirits up, it's being done. I say all this to say this. If ever I had to have a loved one in a facility during a pandemic or ever have a team to work with again during a pandemic, hands down, no questions asked the team at Huntington Court is who I would pick every single time! We just had yet another 100% DEFICIENCY FREE STATE OF OHIO SURVEY under the most difficult of circumstances! You all are THE best in the business!
