NOTE: This was taken from the blog of Foundations Health Solutions leader Bob Speelman. Each week Bob works at one of our Foundations Health facilities in different roles. Whether working in housekeeping or as a nursing assistant, he sees firsthand how we embody the vision of our founder and nursing home developer, Brian Colleran, to be "A Culture of Care."
The other day I went to The Residence at Huntington Court, our 96-bed facility in Hamilton. Shannon Taubken is the administrator there, and she is passionate about our Culture of Care. I had the honor of working with an amazing STNA by the name of Nikki Givens. Nikki is 45, has three children - a son 23, a daughter 21, and her youngest son 17. Nikki has been an STNA for almost 25 years. In fact, her grandmother was an STNA and her mother was an STNA. Caregiving runs in her family and is in her heart.
While working with Nikki, I quickly noticed the teamwork and mutual respect that the entire care team had for one another. The three STNA's Nikki, Sheila, and Heather had their assigned residents, but they floated around two halls assisting each other and answering any call light they saw. Monica and Crystal, the nurses, were terrific and everyone communicated so well.

Once we had a little downtime in the afternoon, Nikki said there is a medical supply delivery today and she usually helps central supply put it up. This wasn't something she had to do or was assigned to do, she just does it because she wants to help out a team member. So we jumped in and within 30 minutes, all the boxes were opened up and the supplies were put away.
I loved seeing our Culture of Care in action today at Huntington Court. It is a fantastic team who love what they do and respect each other.
"The way a team plays as a whole determines its success. You may have the greatest bunch of individual stars in the world, but if they don't play together, the club won't be worth a dime."

I saw a great TEAM in action at Huntington Court. I was proud to be a part of it.
